Jewish is a race or a religion?

So I am told that Jewish is part of the semitic race. I’m a little confused by this because I have never identified as being of the “Jewish” religion, however my mother is a German catholic (a convert to Judaism) and my father is of Russian/Romanian ethnic background with the last name Cohen and this is a Jewish name. My fathers family practiced Judaism but supposedly Cohen is part of the J1-CMH haplotype which is a direct descendant of Aaron of the Israelites. Some of the national socialists say I am not white and can never be white because I have what they call “Jewish blood” but I look white, my families primarily over 6ft tall, we don’t have any strange features like “beady eyes” or “hook noses” on either side of the family yet have the genetics of what is claimed to be the DNA markers to the Israelites. This leaves me with somewhat a confusion of heritage or identity because if someone sees my picture or me in person, they assume I am a person of eastern European/Balkan heritage but yet when they hear of my last name, they say “you are not of European descent”. What is the world view on Jews being a race or religion?

i think they are both, jewish - in the mid 19 hundreds was classed as a race, that is why the germans and ****** belived superior to ,the jew’s couldent realy do much to ****** (it would be like an english man attcking the queen) so back then your’e realy what ever they call you.
but in the days of today!- it is classed as a religion, they follow different beliefs to other people (im not a jewish religion expert)
but-errm, yeah it is both,
more religion though,
