I am a nanny for a 16th month old and have been his nanny since he was 2 months old. I found out I was pregnant in late September/ early October of last year. When I found out that everything was ok with my baby I told my employers. I let them know that if they wanted to find someone else that was fine and I would stay as long as it took, or I would work up until about 2 weeks before my baby was here. They wanted to keep me on so I have stayed. I work AT LEAST 50 hours a week and never complain, even though the initial agreement was 40 hours. Anyway, for the last couple months he has been running a fever off and on. On occasion it spikes to 102.4 etc. He goes to the doctor and gets treated, he is just one of those sick kids though. Anyway, this past weekend I unfortunately caught what their son had again. I ended up going to the hospital last night and was there till 5 this morning, while they ran tests because I was having horrible cramping and running a fever in the 100’s. I called my employer at about 6 am when I got home and settled to let them know that my OB said that I needed the day off to rest. He also said that it was not healthy since I am a high risk pregnancy to be around a baby that is constantly sick, because when he runs fevers I typically do too. I just go to work because me and the baby are both sick and I am never cramp like this time. He told me I need to think about quitting seeing as I am 28 weeks pregnant. My employer was mad, but got over it… or at least I thought, until she called about 2 hours ago yelling at me, literally, telling me that I should have called the minute I got to the hospital to let her know that I was not coming into work. Well first off I had no idea that I was not going into work. I would have if I would not have been there so long. Secondly when I thought some thing was wrong with my baby, the last thing on my mind was calling them. I was concerned with making sure every thing was ok with her, first. I did call them, when I felt it was appropriate. She kept yelling and I politely told her that I did not need the stress of her yelling at me and that she could call me back when she could respect that. I bend over backwards for my employers helping them out as much as possible. I will not sacrifice my baby’s health for their wants though. Am I wrong? Do I need to apologize? I feel like giving my two weeks notice after this… I have saved a lot of money and could use this time to get ready for my daughter… Any insite would be great!

I need some advice. I will try to make this as short as possible, but it is a long story. My sons real father and I split up years ago, and he hasnt seen his father since he was 1. I have recently remarried and my husband is now my sons father. My son loves him to death. He cares so much about what my husband thinks of him etc.

I can yell at my son, and it will bother him. But if my husband yells at him, the world is coming to an end! I realize its from years of not having a father. My husband also has children from his last marraige 2 teenage girls.

We only have his girls every other weekend, and lately I have noticed this problem. He doesnt hold all 3 kids to the same rules. Example…the girls can leave the dinner table without finishing their food, but it would be a cold day in hell before that would be allowed for my son. My husbands excuse is that he isnt going to force a teenage girl to eat if she isnt hungry…whats the difference with my son?

His daughters are caught in lies constantly, one huge one just last weekend. He doesnt yell at them, he does a ridiculous 5 minute lecture (at best) and that is the end of it. They will even sit there and text their friends why he is talking to them! But if my son so much as looks anywhere but at my husband when he is getting yelled at, my husband will get all pissed off and storm out of the room!

Last weekend, I finally snapped. Im so sick of these girls getting away with murder. Ive talked to my husband repeatedly about all of this; to no avail! He doesnt want to be the “bad guy” when they only come up on short occasions. I understand this, but I think it sends the wrong message…

He is worried about his oldest daughter, she is failing most of her classes, chopped all of her long hair off, and dresses like a boy. We have continually asked her if anything has “happend” to her. We constantly get the same answer…no.

I have been on the computer after she has gotten off, and Ive recieved IM’s from her friends calling her “Marcus” which I need to add she said that was her boyfriends name….yeah right.

What I gathered from looking through her IM history is that she refers to herself as 5 different people, one of them being this “Marcus” guy. Im from the Bay Area, and the conversations her and this girl have make me believe that my step daughter is gay, but not her friend.

Ive told my husband this, and he refuses to read the IM’s. Im sure some of you will detest the fact that I snooped, but in this day and age, I worry about my children. Their mother and father seem to ignore all the signs of abuse or issues that need to be addressed.

Since I am the step mother, I have no control over any of this. His other daugher is feminine, and the only issue Ive had with her is when she stole my diamond necklace last year. She lies occasionally, but gets A’s and stays out of trouble. She helps around the house when she is here, and is generally my good girl.

My husband who loves his girls dearly, and seems to tolerate anything from them, will not tolerate ANYTHING from my son.

My son is loving, caring, kind and such a sweet boy! He is going through a whiny phase which I hope is normal? My husband has 0 tolerance for any of it. I feel like he is always getting onto my son for being too loud, talking too much, not finishing school work in time etc.

Ive fought with my husband many times about how he treats my son, and how his daughters can do the same thing and she wont say ****! It gets me nowhere. I will be talking to my son and telling him to do something, and if he doesnt jump my husband is there barking at him.

Ive told him a million times that I can handle it, I dont get it! When I bring it up I get the feeling since his girls are so out of control that he is trying to make up for lost time with my son? Now my son is so sensitive, he has trouble letting go of things when he gets into trouble. He constantly apologizes for the silliest things!

He also has some trouble at school. He licks his hands. He started this last year, its not a nervous habit, because he does it no matter what. Kids have complained about this, as well as other teachers. His teacher has brought up ADD (Im against medication) and she is worried about his social skills due to the hand licking, and he often makes noises during class.

Am I missing something here? Some kids **** their thumbs, some pick their noses, who cares about my son licking his hands. And its not really his hands, he licks his finger tips, as if to turn a page in a book…whats the big F*n deal? Kids are cruel and my son only wants to fit in.

I feel like a referee at home, and a sideliner at school. Any advice? And please dont say “talk to my husband” Ive tried, it doesnt work. He gets upset and thinks Im trashing him as a father. Dont get me wrong, he wrestles and tickles and spends quality time with my son every day. Gives him hugs and love, just seems to get annoyed
